The Australian & New Zealand Disaster and Emergency Management Conference will provide a forum to examine the issues surrounding natural and man-made hazards. The Council of Australian Governments (COAG) released a National Strategy for Disaster Resilience in February 2011. It agreed to adopt "a whole-of-nation resilience-based approach to disaster management, which recognises that a national, coordinated and cooperative effort is needed to enhance Australia’s capacity to withstand and recover from emergencies and disasters." The 2012 conference will be held in Brisbane from 16 - 18 April at the Brisbane Convention Centre. The program format will consist of keynote addresses, concurrent sessions and workshops. There will be more than 50 presentations. The conference streams will include: • Research • People Management • Mitigation • Climate Change • Relief & Recovery – Health, Local Business, Infrastructure • Volunteers • Response • Business Continuity • Crisis Management • Media • Risk Assessment • Policy and Governance In the past few years we have seen fires in Victoria, earthquakes in New Zealand, floods in Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales and Vietnam, a tsunami in Indonesia, a tropical cyclone in North Queensland, volcanic eruptions in Indonesia and The Philippines and hurricanes and severe flooding in the USA.
